together in 2020, in response to Breonna
Taylor chalk art at intersection of Freitas &
Las Gallinas
•Group’s intention is to create art centered
on the themes of justice, equity, diversity
and inclusion through the lens of a Marin-
based Black, Indigenous and People of
Color (BIPOC) perspective

San Rafael Social Justice Public Art Timeline
•Call for artists issued January 2021
•Process for creating art was discussed at Pilot Public Art
Advisory Group in May 2021
•Selected artist will work with a 10 youth artists to co-
create art this summer
•Secured $10k grant from the County, and $10k grant
from the City of San Rafael
•Mid-summer 2021, the conceptual design will be
presented to Advisory Group for feedback
•Late summer 2021, the final artwork will be considered
for approval by City Council
