TO
JOE AND SUE CARLOMAGNO
Sue Carlomagno has tirelessly worked at Youth in Arts for 20 years, serving
from President of the Board to staff member; and
fourteen years ago, Sue and her husband Joe brought the Youth in Arts
Italian Street Painting Festival to Downtown San Rafael to help revitalize the
City by bringing live art to the streets; and
the Italian Street Painting Festival has grown into the largest, top-rated street
painting festival in the country with 60,000 attendees annually, and over
30,000 square feet of chalk art; and
the Italian Street Painting Festival has become an opportunity for community
gathering, celebration and festivities for people of all ages and backgrounds;
and
WHEREAS, Joe and Sue have helped to promote and revitalize the Downtown and have
contributed to the cultural and economic life of San Rafael, as well as raising
funds to support arts education programs for youth in Marin County; and
WHEREAS, Joe and Sue have announced their much -deserved retirement as Directors of
the Italian Street Painting Festival after the 2007 festival.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Italian Street Painting Festival has
become a signature event in Downtown San Rafael with much credit to Joe and Sue for their
tenacity, their personal commitment and vision to make the Italian Street Painting Festival the
premiere festival of its type in the country. The Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael
hereby present this Resolution of Appreciation to Joe and Sue Carlomagno in celebration of
their successful years with Youth in Arts and express sincere appreciation for their efforts in
making the Italian Street Painting Festival a resounding success.
