RESOLUTION OF 11PPRECIRTION
TO
PILGRIM PARK APARTMENTS
WHEREAS, in 1971, the parishioners of First Congregational Church in Terra Linda
wanted to do something special with the Church's excess land, and under
the leadership of John Starkweather, created and developed Pilgrim Park,
a 61 unit affordable housing development adjacent to the church; and
WHEREAS, Pilgrim Park is recognized and considered a fine model for affordable
housing projects. It is managed by a professional company and on-site
staff, and a Board of Directors composed of First Congregational Church
members governs its policies and finances; and
WHEREAS, in 2006, Pilgrim Park underwent an extensive renovation project that
included water damage repair, new dual -pane windows and sliding doors
throughout, exterior painting, seismic upgrades and construction of the
new De Haan Community Center to provide space for residents to gather
and socialize. The De Haan Community Center houses two offices, a
learning center equipped with ten computers, a small kitchen and a large
community room and patio; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, July 14, 2007, residents of Pilgrim Park, members of First
Congregational Church, public officials and friends will celebrate the
completion of the renovation project and the rededication to another 35
years of quality affordable housing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San
Rafael hereby commend First Congregational Church on the renovation project at Pilgrim Park
Apartments and for their rededication to provide safe, quality, affordable housing in our
communit3
