HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 12289 (Hazardous & Solid Waste JPA)RESOLUTION NO. 12289 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL RECOGNIZING OVER 11 YEARS OF COOPERATIVE PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE MARIN COUNTY HAZARDOUS AND SOLID WASTE JPA, THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL AND MARIN RECYCLING AND RESOURCE RECOVERY ASSOCIATION, IN REDUCING HAZARDOUS WASTE IN THE COMMUNITY WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the sound partnership created on September 14, 1995 between the City and Marin Recycling and Recovery Association ("Marin Recycling") for Marin Recycling to operate a permanent Household Hazardous Waste collection facility at 565 Jacoby Street in the City of San Rafael; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the sound partnership that was created on November 18, 1996 and continues between the Marin County Hazardous and Solid Waste JPA and the City of San Rafael; and WHEREAS; the City Council recognizes the commitment of the Marin County Hazardous Waste JPA, Marin Recycling, and the City of San Rafael toward sustainable waste reduction now and in the future; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the following achievements by Marin Recycling: highest recycler in the State for the last three years; the 2006 Golden Acorn Award from the Marin Environmental Forum for exemplary performance in the area of resource recovery, and the 2006 Golden Spire Outstanding Business of the Year award from the Marin County Board of Supervisors; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the award received in 2006 by the Marin County Hazardous and Solid Waste JPA for having the highest countywide diversion rate in the State, and the contributions made by Marin Recycling toward achieving that award; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that in November 2006 the Marin County Hazardous and Solid Waste JPA passed a resolution setting a goal of 80% diversion by 2012 and zero waste by 2025 as well as a resolution supporting local, regional, and statewide Extended Producer Responsibility initiatives, exhibiting their commitment toward hazardous waste reduction; and WHEREAS, the City Council anticipates continued cooperation by the City of San Rafael for many years to come with the Marin County Hazardous and Solid Waste JPA and with Marin Recycling in the reduction of hazardous waste in our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that: 1. The City Council hereby recognizes the exceptional public/private partnerships between Marin County Hazardous Waste JPA, Marin Recycling, and the City of San Rafael, in achieving significant reduction of hazardous waste in our community and in assisting in protecting the environment and the citizens throughout Marin County, and 2. The City Council directs staff to continue to work with the Marin County Hazardous Waste JPA and Marin Recycling to achieve further reductions of hazardous waste for our community in the years to come. The foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the San Rafael City Council held on the 2nd day of July, 2007 by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers: Cohen, Heller, Miller, Phillips & Mayor Boro NOES: Councilmembers: None ABSENT: Councilmembers: None 2 A.
