CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION OF ilPPRECIRTION
TO
JIM ATCHISON
San Rafael Planning Commissioner
WHEREAS, Jim Atchison was appointed to the San Rafael Planning Commission on July
17, 1995, and served on the Planning Commission for twelve years; and
WHEREAS, Jim served as Chair of the Planning Commission for two years of his tenure;
and
WHEREAS, Jim attended more than 300 City meetings, always acting in the best interests
of the community and seeking Solomonesque decisions; and
WHEREAS, he also volunteered his time to participate in numerous committees including
the Citizen of the Year Selection Committee and the Design Discussions. Jim was a key
neighborhood leader in the North San Rafael Vision process and in the Vision -In -Action
Committee; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure the Planning Commission reviewed many important projects
which will positively impact the City for many decades including General Plan 2020, the
Rafael Town Center, the San Rafael Corporate Center, Shamrock Center, Kaiser Clinic,
Lone Palm Apartments, McInnis Apartments, 1101 Fifth Avenue, Redwood Village, Vista
Marin, the Lofts at Albert Park, Chapel Cove, the Alma Via and Aldersley assisted living
projects, the conversion of the El Camino Building, Lincoln Mews, the Fasken Offices, 4300
Redwood Highway, 171-181 Third Street, rehabilitation of the San Rafael Improvement
Club building, upgrades to the Marin Academy campus, expansion of the Pickleweed
Community Center, the Academy Heights subdivision, Lincoln/Mission Condominiums,
Dominican University Master Plan, Recreation Center and Science Building, and the Loch
Lomond Marina Village, as well as countless variances, exceptions and use permits; and
WHEREAS, Jim's participation on the Planning Commission was characterized by his
unique, self -deprecating sense of humor which often had a calming influence in tense
situations and his well reasoned decision-making;
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of
San Rafael hereby extend their sincere appreciation for the contribution Jim has made to the
betterment of the mm�/itunity and its residents.
