A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
AUTHORIZING STREET CLOSURES FOR THE 2016 GREAT RACE START
CELEBRATION ON SATURDAY, JUNE 18th , 2016 FROM 6:00 A.M. — 7:00 P.M. ON
FOURTH STREET FROM LOOTENS PLACE TO D STREET INCLUDING EACH
CROSS STREET FROM LOOTENS PLACE TO E STREET (AS NEEDED)
WHEREAS, the Great Race organizers have contracted with the City of San Rafael to be the "Official
Great Race Start City" for the 2016 Great Race; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Great Race Start Celebration will be held downtown on Saturday June 18, 2016; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing plans for the event and the traffic patterns, City staff has determined and
recommended that, in the interest of the safety and welfare of pedestrian and auto traffic in the downtown
area, the streets listed below should be temporarily closed to through traffic for the date and times shown
below.
WHEREAS, the 2016 Great Race Start Celebration necessitates the temporary closure of city streets on
June 18th, 2016 as specified below:
1) 6:00 a.m. — 7:00 p.m. on Fourth Street from Lootens Place to D Street including streets between
Third Street and Fifth Avenue as follows: Lootens Place, A Street, B Street, C Street, D Street, and E
Street, as needed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That all of the above findings are true and correct;
2. That, pursuant to the authority of Vehicle Code section 21101(e), for the safety and protection of
persons, both pedestrians and vehicle drivers, the City Council hereby authorizes the temporary
closure of the above listed streets for the date and times described above.
I, Esther Beirne, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of San Rafael,
held on Monday, the eighteenth day of April, 2016, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers: Bushey, Colin, Gamblin, McCullough & Mayor Phillips
NOES: Councilmembers: None
ABSENT: Councilmembers: None
