HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 10958 (Virtual Private Network)RESOLUTION NO. 10958 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH "EXTRA TEAM" FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN) TO THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL'S NETWORK SERVERS WHEREAS, the City's Public Works Department has relocated three employees to a trailer at the new City Corporation Yard site to manage the construction of that project and they have need of access to the City's network servers from that location; and, WHEREAS, the City's Management Services Finance Division has begun data conversion to the Eden Financial Applications System, a process which requires remote access to and from the vendor's location to transfer necessary data; and, WHEREAS, the City Attorney's Office requires the ability to access the City's network servers from off-site locations so that the attorneys can continue to perform work when away from the office; and, WHEREAS, Eden Systems' transfer of data to the City's servers is currently being accomplished via a dial -in protocol which is both slow and cumbersome and is susceptible to the threat of hackers compromising the system; and WHEREAS, the vendor for the new Police and Fire CAD/RMS application will also require remote access to the City's servers to transfer data efficiently and securely; and, WHEREAS, Extra Team has the training, knowledge and experience to provide and install VPN to the City's servers so as to significantly reduce the data transfer rate to and from remote sites and to secure the City's network from unwanted and unwarranted intrusions which could compromise the City computer network; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby: 1) finds that all of the above -recited facts are true and correct; 2) approves the Agreement between the City of San Rafael and Extra Team for installation of a virtual private network in City network servers, for an amount not to exceed $25,000.00, in a form to be approved by the City Attorney; 3) authorizes the Mayor to execute the Agreement.
