CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
TO
JAMES "JIMMY" COOK
WHEREAS, James `Jimmy' Cook has been a member of the San Rafael Police
Department from 1972 to 2000 serving as a uniformed officer, and
WHEREAS, Jimmy worked tirelessly in service to the community, displaying
=- uncommon professionalism and dedication to the City of San Rafael in every task assigned
him; and
WHEREAS, all those who met Jimmy in connection with his law enforcement duties
were greeted with irrepressible enthusiasm, respect and intense dedication; and
wrL&o.z S, Jimmy has served as a Patrol Officer, Special Response Team member,
Special Enforcement Officer, Marin County Major Crime Task Force Detective, Federal Fugitive
Task Force Detective, Police Detective and Peer Counselor, in all of which, he made numerous
and significant contributions to the safety and well being of the citizens of the City San Rafael,
especially through his tireless efforts in the areas of undercover narcotics investigations as
evidenced by his receipt of Narcotics Officer of the Year for California in 1979.
WHEREAS, Jimmy will perhaps be remembered most for his favorite saying: `I'm not
here to hurt you, I'm here to help you' and the approach that comment exemplified; one of a
strong sense of humanity, compassion and a heartfelt devotion to community service.
WHEREAS, Jimmy was honorably retired from the San Rafael Police Department in
2001 following 28 years of dedicated service to our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the City of San Rafael
hereby express their sincerest appreciation to Officer James `Jimmy' Cook for his years of
dedicated service and on behalf of all the citizens of our community wish him well in the
future.
