HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 10605 (Marin Earth Day)RESOLUTION N0. 10605 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 22, 2000 AS MARIN EARTH DAY 2000 IN THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL "RENEW THE PROMISE" WHEREAS, it will take major public policy, environmentally sound business practices, increased education, community initiative and individual actions to protect and enhance Marin's environment including protecting and restoring watersheds, wetlands and the marine environment, preservation of agricultural lands, embracing biodiversity, promoting renewable energy efficiency, reducing waste and maximizing recycling, encouraging environmentally responsible consumption, advancing social equity and supporting sustainable development; and WHEREAS, 30 years ago, millions of Americans joined together on Earth Day to express an unprecedented concern for the environment, and their collective action resulted in passage of sweeping laws to protect our air, our water and the lands around us; and WHEREAS, to inaugurate an environmentally sound and sustainable first decade of the new Millennium, individuals, environmental organizations, businesses, educators, government officials, and community leaders must once again stand together in Marin and around the world for a day of education, celebration and collective action to declare our shared resolve. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of San Rafael does hereby proclaim Saturday, April 22, 2000 as Marin Earth Day in the City of San Rafael. I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of said City on the 201h day of March, 2000 by the following vote, to wit: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Cohen, Miller, Phillips and Vice -Mayor Heller NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Mayor Boro J�M.
