HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 10652 (Support MMWD)RESOLUTION No. 10652 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING CITY OF SAN RAFAEL SUPPORT OF MARIN MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT OF THE PHASE 111 PIPELINE TO SONOMA IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE WHEREAS, Measure V was approved by the voters in November of 1992, as well as within the City of San Rafael limits; and WHEREAS, the three -pronged approach of conservation, recycling and supply set forth in Measure V has been aggressively pursued by MMWD; and WHEREAS, Measure V includes the commitment to plan ahead and approach the issue of adequate water supply with forethought and advanced planning, and WHEREAS, the MMWD staff statistics indicate significant disparity between the ability to produce the required potable water for MMWD use and the demand for that water in the coming decade; and WHEREAS, the alternative of developing additional recyclable water costs twice as much and takes five times as long as constructing the Phase 111 pipeline to Sonoma; and WHEREAS, the cost of constructing the proposed pipeline will only increase over time — especially during crisis conditions, and WHEREAS, water rationing and hook-up moratoriums cause economic hardship and impair the quality of life in Marin during drought conditions; and WHEREAS, a key responsibility of a City Council is to protect its residents' quality of life, and the construction of this pipeline will achieve that goal with respect to water supply, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael does hereby support the MMWD development of the Phase 111 pipeline to Sonoma in the immediate future.
