HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 10749 (Purchase 2 Fire Engines)RESOLUTION NO. 10749 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF TWO FIRE ENGINES ( "PUMPERS") FROM KME FIRE APPARATUS FOR THE TOTAL COST OF $564,924.00 WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael Fire Department currently operates two fire engines ("pumpers"), Engine #55, a 1985 Seagrave, and Engine #56, a 1986 Seagrave, which are both more than fourteen years old; and WHEREAS, the City's Vehicle Replacement Schedule indicates that, in fiscal year 2000/2001, these two pumper trucks are due 1) for retirement from front-line fire suppression service and 2) for replacement with new fire engines; and WHEREAS, the Fire Department intends to place the two retired and replaced engines into the Department's reserve fleet, thereby replacing two current reserve engines which are 23 and 35 years old, respectively; and WHEREAS, the Fire Department has determined that the Los Angeles County Fire Department has a fire apparatus purchase contract with KME Fire Apparatus for numerous fire suppression apparatus, which contract has been extended to other fire departments throughout the State; and WHEREAS, the City's Purchasing Policy (Chapter 2.55, San Rafael Municipal Code) allows a City department to purchase equipment and supplies without compliance with bidding requirements in circumstances where the department utilizes "...purchasing agreements maintained by the state, county or other public agencies... ", such as the County of Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the Fire Department staff have reviewed the specifications and price of the fire engines available under the Los Angeles County agreement with KME Fire Apparatus and have determined that both the price and the specifications are an exceptional value for the City of San Rafael, and whereas Fire Department staff recommends that the City purchase these two fire engines through the Los Angeles County Fire Department purchase contract with KME Fire Apparatus. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby: 1. Finds all of the above -recited facts to be true and accurate. 2. Authorizes the San Rafael Fire Department to purchase two fire engines ("pumpers") from KME Fire Apparatus through the Los Angeles County Fire Department purchase contract in an amount not to exceed $564,924.00. 0 Authorizes the Fire Chief to execute any and all documents necessary to complete this purchase.
