HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 10368 (SR City School Boundary Intergrity)RESOLUTION NO. 10368 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL IN SUPPORT OF MAINTAINING THE BOUNDARY INTEGRITY OF THE SAN RAFAEL CITY SCHOOLS WHEREAS, the San Rafael City Schools are an integral part of the City of San Rafael; and WHEREAS, the San Rafael City Schools were established under the charter of the City of San Rafael on November 30, 1912, to serve children in "all the schools within the city of San Rafael, the San Rafael School District, and all territory that is now or may hereafter be annexed thereto for school purposes..."; and WHEREAS, thirty-three petitioners in the Upper Toyon area of the City and District seek to transfer property to the Ross Elementary and Tamalpais High School Districts; and WHEREAS, the integrity of the San Rafael City Schools is of great importance to the Mayor and City Council, the City at large, the students, parents and greater community of San Rafael; and WHEREAS, the San Rafael City Schools have consistently proven to be caring and able providers of the highest quality education; and WHEREAS, it is important to the sovereignty of the City and the District to serve all of the chldren in all the territory of the City and District; and WHEREAS, the loss of these Upper Toyon properties to other districts is not in the best interests of the children, parents or citizens of San Rafael. -1- ORIGINAL 6� NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of San Rafael that it strenuously opposes the transfer of any current territory of the San Rafael City Schools to any other district in the County of Marin. I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of said City held on Monday, the first day of March, 1999, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Cohen, Heller, Miller, Phillips and Mayor Boro NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: None JEAPM M.
