RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
COMMENDING THE MARIN LITERACY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Marin Literacy Program, a joint program of the San Rafael
Public Library and the Marin County Free Library, offers adults the opportunity to
improve their reading, writing and conversation skills; and
WHEREAS, since 1985, the Marin Literacy Program has served over 5,460
Marin County residents who have been provided with the fundamental skills necessary to
secure employment, to provide for the needs of their families and to be functioning citizens
of the community; and
WHEREAS, the program continues to train and support volunteer tutors, to
match tutors with learners for instruction, to empower parents to become their child's first
and most important teacher and to develop cross-cultural awareness which creates a sense
of community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that City Council of the City of San
Rafael hereby commends the Marin Literacy Program staff and Marin Literacy Partners
for their work on behalf of the residents of the County of Marin and declares the week of
September 27th to October 3rd as Marin Literacy Week.
