RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PROCLAIMING JUNE 26, 1998
AS BICYCLE CELEBRATION DAY
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael is located near both Mount Tamalpais
and China Camp State Park, has beautiful waterfronts, many parks, popular
street festivals, and is a popular area for bicycling; and
WHEREAS, City of San Rafael is home to Trips for Kids, Marin County's
finest bicycle shops, and many recreational and commuter bicyclists; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael recognizes that the bicycle is an
efficient, enjoyable and universal mode of transportation, bicycle commuting
helps reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, and a person's physical health
and mental well-being are enhanced by bicycle riding; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael welcomes a broad spectrum of
bicyclists and endeavors to make San Rafael hospitable for safe street cycling;
and
WHEREAS, June 26, 1998, is the Friday before the 53rd Annual Marin
County Fair which will be saluting alternative forms of transportation with its
theme 'The Wheel Stuff" and is encouraging attendees to bicycle to the fair; and
WHEREAS, on June 26, 1998, San Rafael bicycle enthusiasts will be
celebrating the positive aspects of bicycle commuting and recreation, promoting
bicycling as viable daily transportation, and encouraging others to ride bicycles;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and San Rafael
City Council do hereby proclaim June 26, 1998, as Bicycle Celebration Day.
1, Jeanne M. Leoncini, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular
meeting of the City Council of said City held on Monday, the 15'h day of June,
1998, by the following vote, to wit.
AYES: Councilmembers: Cohen, Heller, Miller, Phillips & Mayor Boro
NOES: Councilmembers: None
ABSENT: Councilmembers: None
