RESOLUTION SUPPORTING CONSTRUCTION OF A
BICYCLE PATH ON CAL PARK HILL
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael has desired a bikeway adjacent to Highway 101 over
Cal Park Hill for many years; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael General Plan Circulation Element encourages the
development and maintenance of a safe and logical bicycle routes system be coordinated with the
Countywide system; and
WHEREAS, the County of Marin and City have initiated meetings and maintained for more
than a decade ongoing discussion with the California Department of Transportation regarding a
bikeway adjacent to Highway 101 over Cal Park Hill; and
WHEREAS, the County of Marin commissioned the preparation of a North-South
Bikeway Feasibility Study which identified the Cal Park Hill area as a major obstacle in creating a
continuous north -south commuter route; and
WHEREAS, the Park and Recreation Commission recommends the City Council renew
their support of the North South bicycle connection and request the California Department of
Transportation review options and solutions to construct a bikeway adjacent to Highway 101 over
Cal Park Hill.; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of San Rafael does hereby
proclaim its continued support for a bikeway adjacent to Highway 101 over Cal Park Hill and
encourages the California Department of Transportation to take whatever measures are necessary
and appropriate to facilitate the construction of this bikeway.

foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a REGULAR meeting of the
City Council of said City, held org'UESDAY , the 18th day of FEBRUARY . 1997, by the following
vote, to wit:
