HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 9708 (Endorsing Measure A 1996)Resolution No. 9708 A Resolution of the City Council of the City of San Rafael Endorsing Measure A on the Marin Countywide Ballot November 1996 WHEREAS, The County Board of Supervisors voted to put Measure A on the November ballot, and WHEREAS, Measure A is a quarter cent sales tax measure to benefit the maintenance, repair and improvement of County and City parks, the preservation of agricultural lands, and the acquisition and maintenance of open space, and WHEREAS, 40 percent of the sales tax revenue generated by Measure A will be distributed to the cities of Marin County for repairing and developing parks and recreational facilities; for elimingting safety hazards, for providing positive alternatives for youth; and for maintaining restrooms and other parks facilities, and WHEREAS, the Park and Recreation Commission recommends the City Council endorse Measure A, and WHEREAS, the Park and Recreation Commission recommends the funds be used for maintenance and facility upgrades and to supplement and increase existing service levels in San Rafael, and WHEREAS, the Park and Recreation Commission recommends the Council adopt the attached list of current services and project priorities as the preliminary expenditure plan, subject to annual budget review. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael does hereby endorse Measure A and approves the Park and Recreation Commission recommendations for expenditures of the funds. Phillipa Measure A Priorities Park & Recreation Facility Maintenance - expand the frequency of park maintenance to improve the level of service in existing San Rafael neighborhood parks, traffic islands and recreation facilities. Basic park amenities would be enhanced: clean restrooms, safe playgrounds, and attractive facilities in good repair. Park Projects - the following is a list of specific park projects ready for funding in the next two years. They represent a wide geographic base, diverse interests and extensive partnership base in San Rafael: Complete Albert Park Renovation • Bocce Courts - phase three renovation elements • Lonatese Garden • elementary age playground Save Bernard Hoffman Ballfield Renovate Boyd Park • Playground, bathrooms and picnic facilities. Help with Falkirk Cultural Center Site Development Plan Little League, Soccer, Girl's Softball field improvements Renovate Freitas Park • Water Feature, irrigation system, playground, picnic facilities. Pickleweed Park • Fields - youth soccer, multi use sports courts, increased security, park bathroom, picnic facilities, improved parking lot. Santa Margarita Park • renovate playground, resurface tennis court. Shoreline Park • South Pond wetlands enhancement and shoreline access.
