A RESOLUTION OF THE SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL
SUPPORTING THE GIFTS FOR GUNS EXCHANGE PROGRAM
SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 1, 1996
WHEREAS, violence from the use of firearms has increased in communities
nationwide and accounts for billions of dollars in health care costs and the
premature loss of life and productivity; and
WHEREAS, voluntary gun exchange programs have been very successful
in the cities and counties that have conducted them in getting unwanted guns
safely out of communities, thereby reducing this impact; and
WHEREAS, the Marin County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with the
Marin Interfaith Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council, Marin Suicide
Prevention and the Family Services Agency is co -sponsoring a GIFT FOR GUNS
EXCHANGE PROGRAM in Marin; and
WHEREAS, the co-sponsors have asked for City Council support from all
Marin County cities and towns, the City Council of San Rafael would like to lend
their support to this voluntary and safe method of removing unwanted guns from
our communities; and
WHEREAS, this event is planned for Saturday, June 1,1996 at St. Sebastions
Church located at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Bon Air Road in Greenbroe .
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council for the City of San Rafael does hereby
resolve their support of the GIFTS FOR GUNS EXCHANGE PROGRAM co-sponsored
by the Marin County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with the Marin
Interfaith Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council, Marin Suicide
Prevention and the Family Services Agency.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a
regular meeting of the Council of said City on, Monday, the sixth day of May,
1996, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Cohen, Heller, Phillips and Mayor Boro
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
