HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 9622 (High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes)RESOLUTION NO. 9 6 2 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL TO DIRECT STAFF TO SUBMIT A JOINT APPLICATION WITH THE COUNTY OF MARIN TO CALTRANS TO EXTEND THE OPERATING HOURS FOR THE NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE LANES. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of San Rafael as follows: WHEREAS, the County of Marin, in 1987, supported and endorsed the current operating hours for the northbound and southbound HOV lanes; and WHEREAS, this support and endorsement for the current operating hours was based on the understanding that the traffic conditions on Highway 101 would be periodically evaluated; and and WHEREAS, traffic congestion on Highway 101 has increased since 1987; WHEREAS, it would now be appropriate to expand the operating hours for the HOV Lanes to encourage additional carpooling during the longer morning and evening commute; and WHEREAS, it would be appropriate to expand the southbound operating hours to 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and the northbound operating hours to 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and WHEREAS, this issue is of County -wide significance, and this Council hereby requests that the Board of Supervisors endorse this time change also. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of San Rafael hereby endorses expanding the hours of operation for the HOV Lanes, and directs staff to file a joint application with the County of Marin to effect said changes.
