TO
RICHARD LANDIS
WHEREAS, Richard Landis is departing the City of San Rafael having successfully and elegantly worked his way
through 20 years of remarkable service since first joining the noble ranks of Public Works in 1996, when it was hip
to have an aol.com email address, and has never wavered in his ability to find simple and no nonsense solutions to
the day to day challenges; and
WHEREAS, a true asset to the City, Richard's ability to be warm, charming and a true conversationalist has been
significantly advantageous in diffusing contentious situations and guiding groups and committees to reasonable,
down-to-earth solutions; and
WHEREAS, Richard is known for his prodigious penning of resolutions of appreciation for other City employees in
which he has spawned elegant, sometimes ostentatious versification only in the end to lament to pontificating on
the transparency of using a lot of really big words; and
WHEREAS, Richard's additional superpower is finding humor in nearly every situation, accompanying him through
every piece of the Public Works puzzle, from managing the facilities, fleet and garage staff to navigating the
complexities of dredging the San Rafael Canal and so much more; and
WHEREAS, while Richard is moving into retirement, we take great heart in knowing that he is at least within a
phone call away for abundant knowledge which resideth within him and surely "tis us who shall press on, knowing
that he would return from time to time upon these halls that he might share his wisdom and knowledge of life's
mysteries, and not just his golf scores, the proper use of a spreadsheet, and possibly a bagel or two;" and
WHEREAS, above all things, Richard has comported himself with integrity, honor, loyalty, style, and character
moving ever forward with distinction and principle and worthy mutual regard for others and finally through it all
has ceased to rise above that which would deter him from assisting others and simply getting the work done; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby commends and
congratulates Richard)-andis for his/edication and distinguished service on behalf of the Residents of San Rafael.
