RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL AUTHORIZING
THE PROVISION OF FREE PARKING ON
HETHERTON STREET AND TAMALPAIS
AVENUE
WHEREAS, the State of California Department of Transportation
has contracted with Valentine Corporation to perform seismic
retrofit work on the U.S. Highway 101 through San Rafael; and
WHEREAS, the provision of free parking spaces on Hetherton
Street and Tamalpais Avenue will allow the contractor to complete
the project more than one month ahead of schedule as outlined in
the contractors letter of June 30, 1995 to the Director of Public
Works (copy attached); and
WHEREAS, the slight loss of revenue from these meters would be
more than offset by the public benefit of having this major
construction work completed before the holiday shopping season and
the winter weather.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized to designate
the parking metered spaces on Hetherton Street and Tamalpais Avenue
in downtown San Rafael as free parking spaces until the completion
of the California Department of Transportation's seismic retrofit
work on U.S. Highway 101 which work is being performed by the
Valentine Corporation.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby
certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of
said City held on Monday, the seventh day of August, 1995, by the
following vote, to wit:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS:Cohen, Heller, Phillips, Zappetini and
Mayor Boro
