CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOUITION OF dPPRECIIITIGN
TO
Juanita McGuire
WHEREAS, Juanita McGuire began her 32 year career with the City of San Rafael on March 1,
1961, originally assigned to the Building Department; and
WHEREAS, Juanita transferred to the Fire Department on August 1, 1967, where she began an
illustrious 27 year career in the Department; and
WHEREAS, for many years Juanita served both as Secretary of the Department as well as
Dispatcher; and
WHEREAS, Juanita was the first woman Fire Dispatcher in Marin County, answering emergency
telephone calls and dispatching fire units to many of San Rafael's largest fires; and
WHEREAS, Juanita's distinct voice and command on the radio is still a topic of great
conversation among those who heard her or were dispatched by her; and
WHEREAS, Juanita's dedication and loyalty to the City and Department was of the highest order
and never in question; and
WHEREAS, Juanita always went well beyond what was expected to provide service to the
community; from giving simple directions, to handling irate citizens and showing great sympathy
to those who just lost a loved one; and
WHEREAS, Juanita was really the Department Chief, keeping everyone in line;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
extends its appreciation for her 32 years of loyal, dedicated and devoted service and wishes her
well in her retirement.
