RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
AUTHORIZING STAFF TO APPLY TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY
FOR A $47,300 FAMILY LITERACY GRANT
TO SERVE SAN QUENTIN INMATES
WHEREAS, the California State Library funds a successful Family
Literacy Program at the San Rafael Public Library; and
WHEREAS, the Family Literacy Program provides the adult student with
tools to break the cycle of illiteracy by teaching the parent how to be the first
teacher of his/her child; and
WHEREAS, the San Rafael Public Library Family Literacy Program in
conjunction with the California State Library wishes to develop a model for a
successful family literacy program for incarcerated fathers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of
San Rafael hereby authorizes the San Rafael Public Library to apply to the
California State Library for grant funds to support a Family Literacy Program
serving San Quentin inmates.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, City Clerk of the City of San Rafael hereby certify
that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at
a regular meeting of the City Council of said city held on Monday the FOURTH
day of OCTOBER, 1993 by the following vote to wit:

NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS : None
