RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
AUTHORIZING THE SAN RAFAEL PUBLIC LIBRARY TO SUBMIT A JOINT
APPLICATION WITH THE MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY FOR A U.S.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION LIBRARY SERVICES AND CONSTRUCTION
ACT (TITLE VI) GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $35,000 FOR A "SECOND
LANGUAGE LEARNER" COMPONENT FOR THE EXISTING LIBRARY
LITERACY PROGRAM FOR THE YEAR 1994 - 1995
WHEREAS, the San Rafael Public Library and the Marin County Free
Library operate adult literacy programs; and
WHEREAS, the San Rafael Public Library and the Marin County Free
Library wish to strengthen adult literacy tutoring for the growing immigrant
populations of Marin for whom English is a second language; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education makes grants to
public libraries with literacy programs to support literacy services for populations
for whom English is a second language.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
San Rafael hereby authorizes staff to submit a joint grant application with the
Marin County Free Library to the U.S. Department of Education for a Library
Services and Construction Act (Title VV Grant in the amount of no more than
$35,000 to target "Second Language Learners" as a component of the existing
literacy program.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, City Clerk of the City of San Rafael hereby
certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and
adopted at a Regular meeting of the City Council of said city held on
Mondav, the 15st of November 1993, by the following vote
to wit:
