TO
JOHN NEWMAN
WHEREAS, the City Council and the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Rafael
determined to embark on a collaborative, community based consensus planning
effort to determine the future of Downtown San Rafael; and
WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Agency appointed John Newman to serve as a member of
the Downtown Community Plan Committee; and
WHEREAS, the Committee met from 1991 to 1993 to formulate Our Vision of Downtown San
Ra ael which reflects the dreams and desires of the entire community; and
WHEREAS, John reflected the interests of outlying neighborhoods, business interests and
downtown workers on the Downtown Community Plan Committee; and
WHEREAS, John interacted with many of the Plan Sponsor groups, including the Pacific Gas
and Electric Company, and kept them informed of the progress made on the Plan;
and
WHEREAS, John provided insightful suggestions, sound business sense, reasonable
alternatives, hours of effort throughout our two years of world and assisted
tremendously in informing the community about Our Vision for Downtown San
Rafael.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of
San Rafael, on behalf of all its citizens, hereby express sincere appreciation and
gratitude to John Newman for his dedicated and devoted set -vice as a
DOWNTOWN COMMUNITY PLAN COMMITTEE MEMBER and the
contributions he has made to creating a Vision for Downtown San Rafael which
will improve the quality of life for current and future residents of San Rafael.
