A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN RAFAEL AUTHORIZING TRANSFER OF $40,000 FROM
THE THIRD AND A STREETS PARKING STRUCTURE
PROJECT TO THE FIFTH AND C AND THIRD AND LOOTENS
STREETS PARKING STRUCTURES TO PERFORM
STRUCTURAL CRACK REPAIRS (BY ABBOT CONSTRUCTION)
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of San Rafael, on July 20, 1992,
did award the contract for Repainting and Signing of Fifth and C and Third and
Lootens Parking Structures to Abbot Construction; and
WHEREAS, City staff noted appreciable cracking of the structural
beams and columns at both of said parking structures; and
WHEREAS, staff contracted with Bob Copple, Structural Engineer, to
evaluate the seriousness and extent of said cracking; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Copple has determined the condition of the cracks
to be potentially dangerous, and has devised a repair scheme to repair the
cracks; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Copple estimated the repair scheme to cost
approximately $40,000; and
WHEREAS, Abbot Construction submitted a proposal to perform the
repair scheme for $39,479; and
WHEREAS, the Council has appropriated $40,000 to repaint the
Third and A parking structure in this fiscal year's budget, and said project is yet
to be designed.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED AND RESOLVED that
the City Engineer is hereby authorized to issue a change order to Abbot
Construction to perform the devised repair scheme at the unit prices mentioned
in said proposal.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED AND RESOLVED that the City Engineer is
hereby authorized to extend the time for completion of the contract by a
deferred amount of time upon showing of good cause by the Contractor.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED AND RESOLVED that the funds of
$40,000 be transferred from the Third and A Streets Parking Structure painting
project to subject project and the Repainting of the Third and A Streets Parking
Structure project be deferred until Fiscal Year 1993-94.
