A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
FOR PEACE CONVERSION
TO SATISFY LOCAL NEEDS
WHEREAS, the people of the City of San Rafael have elected
us to provide for many of their community's needs; and
WHEREAS, insufficient funding now precludes adequate
provision of said services and of many other services for which
state and local jurisdictions are responsible; and
WHEREAS, state and local jurisdictions must now fight with
one another for scarce financial resources while vast sums of
tax money flow to the Federal Government; and
WHEREAS, it is unnecessary for the United States to maintain
large numbers of troops abroad or to persist in the development
of costly military programs or the addition of more nuclear
warheads to our already enormous stockpile.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Rafael City
Council petitions the President and the Congress of the United
States to cut military spending and to redirect the scores of
billions of dollars saved thereby to such critical local and
national needs as revitalizing our economy, reducing the Federal
deficit, helping to provide adequate housing, family and social
services, improving education, protecting our environment, and
rebuilding our nation's infrastructure.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael,
hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and
regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the
City Council of said City held on Tuesday, the twenty-first
day of January, 1992, by the following vote, to wit:
