CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
HEW 01,11T10N OF NPPRECIftT10N
TO
THE RESIDENTS OF LONATE POZZOLO
WHEREAS, Italian families from Lonate Pozzolo in the Province
of Varese settled in San Rafael in the late 1800's
and since that time have made significant contributions
to the civic, cultural, business and educational life
of the community; and
WHEREAS, in 1988 a sister city relationship was established
between Lonate Pozzolo and the City of San Rafael;
and
WHEREAS, the local Gruppo Lonatese has played an important role
in building, cherishing and preserving the rich local
heritage of the original settlers from Lonate Pozzolo;
and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael welcomes the large group from
Lonate Pozzolo who have arrived to celebrate the 500th
anniversary of Columbus's discovery of America.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council
of the City of San Rafael, on behalf of all of its
residents, express sincere appreciation to the residents
of Lonate Pozzolo and to Gruppo Lonatese for fostering
and strengthening our sister city ties.
