HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 8364 (Earth Day)RESOLUTION NO. 8364 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL IN SUPPORT OF EARTH DAY MARIN COUNTY APRIL 21, 1991 WHEREAS, we face an international environmental and political crisis that demands the attention of the American people and citizens of every nation in the world to prioritize and reallocate the use of energy sources; and WHEREAS, recent events have reinforced our need to reevaluate our energy policy and emphasize alternative, non-polluting and renewable resources; and WHEREAS, we need to confront environmental problems of increasing severity, including climate changes; depletion of stratospheric ozone layer; loss of forests & wetlands; acid rain; air and water pollution; and WHEREAS, transportation is the largest single consumptive energy user in this country and the internal combustion engine fueled by gasoline or diesel has limited our vision of "GETTING FROM HERE TO THERE"; and WHEREAS, we must educate and encourage individuals to recognize the impact of their daily lives on the environment by becoming responsible consumers, conserving energy, increasing recycling efforts, and promoting environmental responsibility in their communities; and WHEREAS, we in Marin recognize the validity of the statement "THINK GLOBALLY AND ACT LOCALLY" and realize that our collective actions have an impact on the greater community of man; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby designates and proclaims April 21, 1991 as Earth Day, Marin County. I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify the the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a REGULAR meeting of the City Council of said City, held on MONDAY , the 1ST day of APRIL , 1991, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Boro, Breiner, Shippey, Thayer & Mayor Mulryan NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: None JE M.
