A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
REQUESTING CALTRANS TO LANDSCAPE
THE SOUNDWALLS IN MARIN COUNTY
WHEREAS, it is generally accepted that the use of Highway
101 is necessary for the economic survival of many of the
County's residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the people of San Rafael are proud of the visual
benefits to both visitors and residents to be gained through
travel on Highway 101 ; and
WHEREAS, CalTrans has erected sound barriers in the form
of a stone wall along portions of Highway 101 in Marin County
to lessen the negative effects of the noise generated by the
traffic along that highway; and
WHEREAS, the aesthetic effect of the soundwall is less
than pleasing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Rafael City
Council requests that CalTrans allocate the appropriate amount
of money to properly landscape the soundwalls along Highway
101 in Marin County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is requested that drought
resistant vines or plants be used to landscape these walls.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael,
hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and
regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the
City Council of said City held on Monday, the seventh day of
October, 1991, by the following vote, to wit:

NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
