RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN RAFAEL AUTHORIZING PERIMETER MOWING
OF OPEN SPACE LANDS IN THE TERRA LINDA AND
SUN VALLEY SLOPE AREAS
WHEREAS, it appears perimeter mowing is the only effective
fire management method to prevent damage to private properties in
open space areas; and
WHEREAS, grazing will reduce the intensity of a fire,
but will do little to prevent property damage; and
WHEREAS, the fire management program of the Open Space
Management Plan identified perimeter mowing of grasslands as being
the area of highest priority for managing fuel in the open space
lands; and
WHEREAS, in analyzing the various options open to the
Council, it seems the most efficient use of City funds would be to
accomplish perimeter mowing, while at the same time affording the
greatest protection to private property.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of San Rafael to direct staff to implement perimeter
mowing of the open space lands in the Terra Linda Valley and Sun
Valley slope area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the expenditure of up to
$15,000 is hereby authorized from unappropriated reserves for said
perimeter mowing.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael,
