The Ne -ads Assessment and Review of Supply is the part of the project during which
the consultants collect information about the child care needs of the residents and
employe' -5 in the area in and around San Rafael. We will then review the current
supply of child care providers in the various communities and gain an
understanding of the quantity, quality, and diversity of child care services available
in and around San Rafael. This particular study will consist of several componants:
1. Written survey(s): In order to gather statistical and demographic information,
and gain an understanding of child care trends in the community, we will
design and desseminate several different short surveys. We will attempt to
gather objective data from parents, employees, employers, providers, non-
profit organizations, and government entities. The data will allow us to
understand the current and future supply and demand of child care services.

I Interviews and Focus Groups: In our attemvt to understand the suoviv and
demand for child care services in the San Rafael community, we will want to
meet with as many individuals and o oups as our budget allows. Individual
interviews and group discussions produce crucial information which car, be
used to develop a wor'.cing Plan or Action. We find that we learn a great deal
about individual and group needs and solutions through discussions.
