MONSIGNOR THOMAS KENNEDY
WHEREAS, Monsignor Kennedy has served as a spiritual leader
in Marin's oldest parish for twenty-five years;.and
WHEREAS, his concern for the community extended beyond religious
bounds in his membership and presidency of the San
Rafael Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Kennedy is known in the community for his
generosity, thoughtfulness, kindness and humanity
demonstrated by bringing communion to the ill and
shut-ins, donating his own blood, by co -sponsoring
Laotian refugees, and numerous other caring actions;
and
WHEREAS, his long and distinguished career in San Rafael began
in 1937 as a seminarian teaching catechism; he was
ordained in St. Mary's Cathedral in 1941, and served
as an assistant pastor and high school teacher in
various schools until returning to Marin in 1949
as the Assistant Principal, and three years later
Principal, of Marin Catholic High School,
WHEREAS, in 1965 Monsignor Kennedy became Administrator of
St. Raphael's, and was named pastor the next year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the San Rafael City Council
recognizes Monsignor Thomas Kennedy for his outstanding
service to the community, commends him for his long-
standing dedication to improving the quality of life,
and extends its best wishes to him in his retirement.
