RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL IN
SUPPORT OF P.L. 100-662, A CONGRESSIONAL JOINT RESOLUTION SIGNED
BY PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN TO ESTABLISH 1989 AS "THE YEAR OF THE
YOUNG READER"
WHEREAS, P.L. 100-662, a Congressional joint resolution establishing
1989 as "The Year of the Young Reader," was signed by President Ronald
Reagan; and
WHEREAS, The Year of the Young Reader encourages the
enjoyment of reading in children and young adults, and stresses the
importance of books early in a child's development, and highlights
children's literature and the qualities and characteristics of good books;
and
WHEREAS, The City of San Rafael owns and operates the San Rafael
Public Library, which through its Children's Services successfully promotes
the goals and values of The Year of the Young Reader.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of San Rafael hereby expresses its support of P.L. 100-662, "The Year of the
Young Reader" in its intention to celebrate books and reading, and
congratulates the staff and the Board of the Library for providing a strong
and effective program of Children's Services.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, City Clerk of the City of San Rafael hereby
certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced
and adopted at a Reaular meeting of the City Council of said City held
