HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 7921 (Freedom of Information Day)RESOLUTION NO. 7921 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL IN SUPPORT OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION DAY, MARCH 16, 1989 WHEREAS, March 16 is the anniversary of the birth of James Madison, one of the Founding Fathers, who recognized and supported the need to guarantee individual rights through the Bill of Rights; and WHEREAS, Madison said, "Knowledge will forever govern ignorance and people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives"; and WHEREAS, The power which knowledge gives is fostered by free access to information; and WHEREAS, the Congress and the President have proclaimed March 16, 1989 as 'F'reedom of Information Day" and have urged that the day be observed by the government and the people. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby proclaims March 16, 1989 to be " M-eedom of Information Day" in the City of San Rafael, and that all residents of San Rafael be urged to exercise their right to free access to information and to use the resources available to them through the San Rafael Public Library. I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, City Clerk of the City of San Rafael hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a ReLsular meeting of the City Council of said City held on Mondav the 6th day of March , 1989, by the following vote to wit: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Boro, Breiner, Frugoli, Thayer & Mayor Mulryar NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: None J M.
