JOHN CHILDRESS
WHEREAS, John Childress was first employed by the San Rafael Police
Department on March 1, 1976; and
WHEREAS, John has actively worked to promote education about the
problems of alcohol and drug abuse; and
WHEREAS, John is committed to the value of the youth of our community
and has developed puppet shows on physical and sexual child abuse,
drug abuse and general safety topics that are presented to students
in Kindergarten through Fifth grades; and
WHEREAS, John has participated in radio and television talk shows
about child abuse and has been featured in several newspaper articles
featuring the service he provides and the image he presents of Police
Officers to the youth of our community; and
WHEREAS, John has served as a member of the Marin County Self Esteem
Task Force, Parents United and the Family Service Agency of Marin; and
WHEREAS, John takes the oppotunity to work in a positive, meaningful
wav with the young people in our community and is a warm, caring
and dependable employee, always willing to do extra work and be called
upon for special needs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the
City of San Rafael hereby designate John Howard Childress as
CITY OF SAN RAFAEL 1989 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR
and express sincere appreciation to John for his dedication and
outstanding service to our community on this seventeenth day of
nineteen hundred and eighty-nine. r _
