A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN RAFAEL RECOGNIZING LONATE POZZOLO,
PROVINCE OF VARESE, ITALY AS A SISTER CITY
WHEREAS, a local group of citizens has asked that the City
Council recognize Lonate Pozzolo, Province of Varese, Italy, as a
sister city of San Rafael; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Lonate Pozzolo have expressed
their desire to establish a sister city relationship with San Rafael
in order to foster cultural exchanges as well as inter -cultural
understanding between the two communities; and
WHEREAS, the connection between Lonate Pozzolo and San
Rafael extends back to the late 1800's, as many Lonatese immigrated
to San Rafael, and those immigrants and their descendants have
contributed significantly to the civic, cultural, business, and
educational life of San Rafael.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of San Rafael hereby formally recognizes Lonate Pozzolo,
Province of Varese, Italy,as a Sister City of San Rafael.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael,
hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly
introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of said
City the FIRST day of AUGUST , 1988, by the following vote,
to wit:

NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
