HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 7726 (SR High School Appreciation)i SRCC ITEM #3 (5/2/88) RESOLUTION NO. 7726 MY' C* SAN WAU IMULMIGN OF ftPPRECIATION Im SAN RAFAEL HIGH SCHOOL WHEREAS, San Rafael High School was Marin County's first high school, founded in August, 1888, with one teacher and twenty-three students; and WHEREAS, it was accredited by the University of California in May, 1891, and eight students represented its first graduating class in June, 1892; and WHEREAS, the offical ground breaking for the present location of the high school took place December 17, 1923, with the first classes commencing in September, 1925 with an enrollment of just under 400 students; and WHEREAS, today the campus is one of seven public high schools in Marin County, and currently San Rafael High School serves a student body of more than 1,100; WHEREAS, San Rafael High School's Centennial will be celebrated during the weekend of May 13-15, 1988; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael expresses its appreciation for the outstanding contribution that San Rafael High School has made to our community over the past 100 years, and encourages the citizens of San Rafael to parti- cipate in this Centennial celebration.
