HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 7706 (Transportation Authority)RESOLUTION NO. 7706 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL RECOMMENDING TO THE MARIN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEMBERSHIP OF A TRANS- PORTATION AUTHORITY WHEREAS, the Marin County Mayors and Councilmembers re- quested the Board of Supervisors establish a Transportation Expenditure Plan Committee to develop a transportation plan and assess support for a transportation sales tax; and WHEREAS, the Marin County Board of Supervisors established a Transportation Expenditure Plan Committee including repre- sentatives from the County, each City and Town, transit and community interest groups; and WHEREAS, the existing sales tax enabling legislation requires the designation of a transportation authority by the Board of Supervisors to place a tax proposal before the voters; and WHEREAS, the Transportation Authority can be the Metropolitan Transportation Commission or a new entity composed entirely of elected officials from local governments CHOSEN by the Board of Supervisors with the concurrence of a majority of the cities having a majority of the population in the incorporated areas; and WHEREAS, the Transportation Expenditure Plan Committee recommends the creation of a new authority with 7 members, including 1 member from the Board of Supervisors, 1 member from the Novato City Council, 1 member from the San Rafael City Council, and 4 members selected by the Marin County Council of Mayors and Councilmembers from their membership with no City having more than 1 representative. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Rafael City Council endorses the creation of a new 7 member Transportation Authority as recommended by the Transportation Expenditure Plan Committee. n 770 � RESOLUTION NO. 770F I, JEANNE M.
