TO
SAN RAFAEL POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, November 18, 1986, members of the
SAN RAFAEL POLICE DEPARTUENT, without regard for their personal
safety, apprehended the person responsible for the tragic death
of former Marin County District Attorney, William O. Weissich;
and
WHEREAS, the swift and professional actions of the members
of the Department prevented the death of several more local
citizens by the hand of the suspect; and
WHEREAS, the Department demonstrated its professionalism
in an incident that generated nationwide media attention; and
WHEREAS, special thanks for their direct involvement is
given to Sergeant Michael Cronin, Officer Gregory P. Cella, Officer
John S. Coen, Officer Douglas R. Fletcher, Officer James A.
MacDonald, Officer John S. Needling, Dispatcher Lisa M. Waite
and Dispatcher Lynette M. Walker.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Rafael City
Council expresses its appreciation and commendation to the members
of the SAN RAFAEL POLICE DEPARTMENT for their demonstration of
professionalism, team work and acts of individual bravery.
