HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 7221 (Election Results 1985)RESOLUTION NO. 7221 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL DECLARING CANVASS OF RETURNS AND RESULTS OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 5, 1985 WHEREAS, in pursuance of law and the Charter of the City of San Rafael, there was held in said City and in the San Rafael School District and in the San Rafael High School District on Tuesday, the 5th day of November, 1985, a general municipal election to elect municipal officers and members of the Board of Education, at which election the offices to be filled and the candidates for such offices were as follows: FOR CITY COUNCIL: (Two to be elected for full term of 4 years each) STEVE KLINE DOROTHY L. BREINER GARY R. FRUGO.LI FOR CITY ATTORNEY: (One to be elected Parttime for a short term of 2 years) GARY T. RAGGHIANTI FOR MEMBERS, SAN RAFAEL BOARD OF EDUCATION: (Two to be elected for a full term of 4 years each) GARY POLLOCK HARRY S. MILLER DAVID CAPITOLO JOHN L. RICHARD WHEREAS, at said election the following measures, and each of them, were submitted to the electors of the City: MEASURE D - INCREASE OF APPROPRIATIONS LIMITS Shall an ordinance be adopted changing the City of San Rafael's appropriations limit for four years beginning in fiscal year 1985/1986 to allow the use of existing tax revenue sources by the City? The text of the proposed ordinance is set forth as Exhibit A of Resolution No. 7132 passed by the City Council of the City of San Rafael on July 1, 1985, and is on file in the office of the City Clerk. - I On t. � 7 aa/ RESOLUTION NO. 72� MEASURE E - PROCEDURE TO CLOSE SECONDARY SCHOOL Shall an amendment to the San Rafael City Charter, requiring a non-binding advisory election be held prior to permanent closure of a secondary school (high school) within the San Rafael School District, be adopted? The text of said amendment, which would comprise Section 7., of Article XI of the San Rafael Charter, is set forth in Section B of Resolution No. 7140 passed by the City Council of the City of San Rafael on July 15, 1985 and is now on file in the office of the City Clerk. WHEREAS, said general municipal election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 1985, in accordance with law and the votes thereat received and canvassed, and the returns thereof ascertained, determined and declared in all respects as required by law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of San Rafael, as follows: 1. That the City Clerk of the City of San Rafael be, and is hereby, instructed to enter this resolution on the minutes of the Council as a statement of the results of said election. 2. That the whole number of votes cast at said election was 10,432 votes. (a) That the total number of votes cast for municipal offices at said election in said City was 8,170. (b) That the total number of votes cast outside the City limits of said City in said School Districts was 2,262. 3. That the names of the persons voted for and the respective offices to be filled, for which ballots were cast, and the number of votes given in each precinct and by absentee votes to each of said persons was as detailed in Exhibit A, attached. -2- RESOLUTION NO. 72-- 4. That at said general municipal election the following named persons received the largest number of votes for the following offices, respectively, and were, therefore, duly elected to the respective office for which they were respectively candidates, and each of said persons having received the largest number of votes cast for any person for such office is hereby declared to be fully and regularly elected to such office, respectively for the term commencing November 12, 1985, and the City Clerk is hereby directed to issue a Certificate of Election to each of said persons, certifying his/her election to the office appearing after his/her name, and to administer or direct administration to each of said persons the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution and laws of the State of California and the Charter of said City, to wit: DOROTHY L. BREINER COUNCILMEMBER GARY R. FRUGOLI COUNCILMEMBER GARY T. RAGGHIANTI CITY ATTORNEY (for a short term of 2 years) GARY POLLOCK MEMBER, SAN RAFAEL BOARD OF EDUCATION DAVID CAPITOLO MEMBER, SAN RAFAEL BOARD OF EDUCATION 5. That more than a majority of all the votes cast on said Measure D were in favor of said Measure, and said Measure carried. 6. That more than a majority of all the votes cast on said Measure E were in favor of said Measure, and said Measure carried. 7. That all absentee voters' ballots have been duly received and canvassed in time, form and manner as required by law. I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a special meeting of the Council of said City held on Tuesday, the twelfth day of November, 1985, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS:Breiner, Frugoli, Nave, Russom & Mayor Mulryan NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: None mm JE -M.
