HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 6781 (115 J Street Historical Landmark)RESOLUTION N0.6781 A RESOLUTION OF THE SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL DESIGNATING 115 "J" STREET AS A HISTORICAL LANDMARK WHEREAS, the Cultural Affairs Commission and the City Council have found after conducting a public hearing, that 115 "J" Street has significant value as part of the cultural character- istics of the City, historic heritage of the community and por- trays the environment in the area of history characterized by a distinctive architectural style; and WHEREAS, 115 "J" Street with its mature grounds and setting represents an established and familiar visual feature of the neighborhood in which it is located; and WHEREAS, the following findings have been made to justify historic designation of the subject property: 1) The subject building and property has significant character, interest and value as part of the development, her- itage and cultural characteristics of the City in that the improve- ments were originally constructed for Robert Dollar and reputed to be designated by the Newsom brothers who were foremost Victorian architects in California. 2) The building is rated 'Excellent' on the San Rafael Historical/Architectural Survey, and the site improvements are well maintained. These improvements and the distinctive arch- itectural design of the building portrays the environment of that time in history. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of San Rafael, California, that the building at 115 "J" Street, mentioned and described, is designated as a Historical Landmark, and shall be preserved and maintained pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 2.18 of the San Rafael Municipal Code; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of San Rafael is hereby directed to cause a copy of this Reso- lution, or notice thereof, to be recorded in the Office of the County Recorder. RESOLUTION NO. 6: 1 I, JEANNE M.
