RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA PROTESTING APPLI-
CATION OF PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY
TO THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
FOR ELECTRIC AND GAS RATE INCREASES
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael has been notified by the
California Public Utilities Commission that Pacific Gas and Electric
Company has made application to said Commission to increase rates
and charges for electric and gas service; and
WHEREAS, the California Public Utilities Commission is holding
public hearings to consider testimony regarding said request for rate
increases; and
WHEREAS, said requested rate increases would raise electrical
energy costs by 40% and natural gas costs by 270, respectfully; and
WHEREAS, said proposed rate increases would affect the City
of San Rafael by raising City's annual electrical energy costs by
$176,000 and annual natural gas costs by $8,000; and
WHEREAS, in these times of strict monetary constraints, said
rate increases would place an intolerable strain on the financial
condition of the City of San Rafael;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of San Rafael, California, herewith registers its opposition to
said electric and gas increases as requested by Pacific Gas and Electric
Company, and urges the California Public Utilities Commission to deny
Pacific Gas and Electric Company's application for said rate increases.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael,
California, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and
regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of
said City on Monday, the 6th day of April, 1981, by the following vote,
to wit:
