A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
SUPPORTING THE RENAMING OF TIIE RICHMOND -SAN RAFAEL BRIDGE
TO THE JOHN F. McCARTHY MEMORIAL BRIDGE
IN HONOR OF JOHN F. McCARTHY
WHEREAS, the late California State Senator, John F. "Jack"
McCarthy, faithfully served the citizens of San Rafael as State
Senator from 1950 to 1970; and
WHEREAS, during his two decades in the Senate "Jack"
McCarthy served on every major committee, and listed among his
major accomplishments authorization of bills creating the Bay Area
Rapid Transit District and authorizing the construction of the
Richmond -San Rafael Bridge; and
WHEREAS, State Senator Milton Marks has authored Senate
concurrent Resolution No. 19 renaming the Richmond -San Rafael
Bridge to the John F. McCarthy Memorial Bridge in honor of John F.
McCarthy:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of San Rafael wishes to join in support of renaming the
Richmond -San Rafael Bridge to the John F. McCarthy Memorial Bridge
in honor of John F. McCarthy.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael,
hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly
introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of said
City on Monday, the twentieth day of April, 1981,. by the following
vote, to -wit:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Breiner, Jensen, Miskimen, Nixon and
Mayor Mulryan
