HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6105RESOLUTION N0. 6105 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PROTESTING PROPOSED RATE INCREASE OF PACIFIC TELEPHONE, CPUC O.I.I. NO. 84 WHEREAS, as the result of action by the Federal Communi- cations Commission (FCC) the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company (PT&T) has requested authorization from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to increase its rates by $252 Million Dollars per year; and WHEREAS, said increase would be reflected and passed through to customers in increased charges; and WHEREAS, PT&T must obtain permission from the CPUC to obtain said increased rates; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Rafael protests the rate increases for the following reasons: 1. The Police and Fire Departments of the City, through City Ordinance, require that telephone company lease lines be utilized for numerous fire and burglar alarm systems; said rate increase would directly impact the Ordinance -mandated lease line connections. 2. The City Public Works Department requires its traffic signal interconnection system be connected to telephone lines; an increase of telephone rates would directly impact the charges to the City for said traffic signal interconnection. 3. The City's Community Center and Day Care Centers all are dependent on telephone -connected alarm systems rate increases of which would also directly financially impact the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL that the City Council lodges to the CPUC its protests to the proposed rate increase by PT&T. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the proper officials of PT&T and the CPUC. A l�� _ RESOLUTION NO. 6105 I, JEANNE M.
