A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN RAFAEL PROTESTING PROPOSED RATE INCREASE OF
PACIFIC TELEPHONE, CPUC O.I.I. NO. 84
WHEREAS, as the result of action by the Federal Communi-
cations Commission (FCC) the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph
Company (PT&T) has requested authorization from the California
Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to increase its rates by
$252 Million Dollars per year; and
WHEREAS, said increase would be reflected and passed
through to customers in increased charges; and
WHEREAS, PT&T must obtain permission from the CPUC to
obtain said increased rates; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Rafael
protests the rate increases for the following reasons:
1. The Police and Fire Departments of the City, through
City Ordinance, require that telephone company lease lines be
utilized for numerous fire and burglar alarm systems; said rate
increase would directly impact the Ordinance -mandated lease line
connections.
2. The City Public Works Department requires its
traffic signal interconnection system be connected to telephone
lines; an increase of telephone rates would directly impact the
charges to the City for said traffic signal interconnection.
3. The City's Community Center and Day Care Centers
all are dependent on telephone -connected alarm systems rate
increases of which would also directly financially impact the
City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL that the City Council lodges to the CPUC
its protests to the proposed rate increase by PT&T.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution
be forwarded to the proper officials of PT&T and the CPUC.
