GEORGE W. SUMNER
WHEREAS, GEORGE W. SUMNER has served as Warden of San Quentin
State Prison for the last five years and was chosen
by the American Correctional Association as Warden of
the Year for 1981, and
WHEREAS, MR. SUMNER made great efforts toward developing a
community relations program between the prison, the
City of San Rafael, and Marin County, and
WHEREAS, MR. SUMNER has been an avid supporter of youth sports
programs and was responsible for the construction of
the batting cage at San Rafael High School, and
WHEREAS, MR. SUMNER has been an active member of the Marvelous
Marin Breakfast Club and a highly desired and well-
received speaker at clubs and organizations in Marin
and throughout the nation and a parttime instructor at
Dominican College,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
San Rafael expresses its appreciation to GEORGE W. SUMNER
for his outstanding work in the field of corrections and
for his contributions to our community. The Council
further wishes him well in his future endeavors.
