WHEREAS, William M. Vaning, former Tree Foreman for the City of
San Rafael, provided many years of faithful service to
his community; and
WHEREAS, while engaged in private business, Bill Vaning was called
upon as a Tree Consultant for the City and for many years
was responsible for the planting of some of San Rafael's
more established and beautiful trees; and
WHEREAS, after working in private business, Bill Vaning then
joined the City's Public Works Department supervising the
planting and maintenance of most of the City's trees and
continued to serve the City as a consultant after his
retirement in 1966; and
WHEREAS, Bill also served his community as a member of the
volunteer Fire Department and during that time he helped
fight many of the major fires in San Rafael's history;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVFD THAT the City Council of the City
of San Rafael recognizes that William Vaning, by way of
his love for his City and its trees, accomplished much
to make San Rafael a beautiful and attractive place to
live.
BE IT FURTHFR RESOLVED THAT the Superintendent of Parks is hereby
directed to plant a tree among the other botanical specimens
on the grounds of City Hall in memory of the lasting
contributions that Bill Vaning has given to all those who
enjoy the beauty of our City's tr5fi7- . _
