HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5607RESOLUTION NO. 5607 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL SUPPORTING SAN RAFAEL HIGH SCHOOL'S RESOLUTION TO DESIGNATE DAISY AS THE NATIONAL FLOWER WHEREAS, the United States is the only major country in the world without a national flower; and WHEREAS, the peoples of the world have from time immemorial adopted emblems, flags, birds and flowers for their countries, representative of their national virtues; and WHEREAS, the people of the United States have adopted emblems -- the American flag, the American eagle -- to represent the virtues of their country; and WHEREAS, each of the fifty sovereign states of the United States of America, in addition to its state flag, has a floral emblem which it cherishes as its own; and WHEREAS, it becomes important to reaffirm our faith and our principles in times of great national stress; and WHEREAS, identification with a floral emblem seems distinctly appropriate at this time; and WHEREAS, the daisy has its roots in native plants as well as European and Asian origins and thus represents the diversity of the people of the United States and its melting pot tradition; and WHEREAS, the daisy in all of its varieties best represents the spirit of the common man; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Rafael City Council supports San Rafael High School's resolution to have the daisy as a national flower. I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, California, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the onlg,�NAL -�taol Council of said City held on the fifth day of February, 1979, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: COUNCILMEN: Jensen, Mulryan, Nixon and Mayor Bettini NOES: COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: Miskimen E'AS J NE M.
