HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5571RESOLUTION NO. 5571 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL DETERMINING NUMBER OF WORDS IN CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT AND PROVIDING THAT THE COST OF PRINTING AND HANDLING OF CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT SHOULD BE BORNE BY THE CANDIDATE WHEREAS, Section 10012 Elections Code provides that candidates for nonpartisan elective office in any local agency, including any city, county, city and county or district may prepare a candidate's statement, which state- ment may include the name, age and occupation of the candidate and a brief description of no more than 200 words of the candidate's education and quali- fications, and WHEREAS, the governing body of said local agency may authorize an increase in the limitations on words for such statement from 200 to 400 words, and WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 5224 adopted December 6, 1976, the San Rafael City Council authorized an increase in the limitations on words for such statement from 200 to 400 words, and further, that in the event a candidate wished to avail himself/herself of the right to prepare a candidate's statement, the cost of printing and handling of the candidate's statement would be borne by the candidate and not by the City of San Rafael, and WHEREAS, the cost of printing 400 words has increased substantially and is now estimated by the County of Marin Elections Department to be approxi- mately Two Hundred Ninety Dollars ($290.00) and the cost of printing 200 words has been estimated to be approximately One Hundred Forty -Five Dollars ($145.00): NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Rafael does hereby resolve that the number of words of the candidate's statement for all San Rafael General Municipal Elections shall be 200 words. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in the event a candidate wishes to avail himself/herself of the right to prepare a candidate's statement, the estimated cost of printing and handling of the candidate's statement shall be borne by the candidate and not by the City of San Rafael.
