HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5202RESOLUTION NO. 5202 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO BE MADE TO THE MARIN COUNTY URBAN SYSTEM COMMITTEE FOR FUNDS FOR OFF-STREET PARKING FACILITIES, SECOND STREET AND THIRD STREET, SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the San Rafael Redevelopment Agency has approved and budgeted funds for the acquisition and construction of off-street parking facilities on Second Street and Third Street in San Rafael, California; and WHEREAS, these parking facilities will be constructed to replace on -street parking which will be removed in order to provide a third lane of traffic on both streets; and WHEREAS, the need for said off-street parking facilities is basically caused by the high traffic volumes which Second Street and Third Street carry, much of which is through traffic; and WHEREAS, the City Council previously approved Stages 1, 2, and 3 of the Federal -Aid Urban Project; Stage 1 consisting of construction of the off-street parking facilities and an addi- tional traffic lane on Second Street and Third Street, and Stages 2 and 3 consisting of the Fourth Street and Miracle Mile Roadway Construction Project which was recently completed; and WHEREAS, the Environmental Impact Statement for Stages 1, 2, and 3 has been approved by the State Department of Trans- portation and the Federal Highway Administration; and WHEREAS, Stages 1, 2, and 3 have been approved by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments; and WHEREAS, additional funds are required for the acqui- sition and construction of said Stage 1 Off -Street Parking Facilities in the amount of $600,000: ��� Via01 ' L NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby authorizes application to be made to the Marin County Urban System Committee for funds in the amount of $600,000 for the acquisition and construction of off-street parking facilities on Second Street and Third Street in San Rafael, California. I, MARION A.
