RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
REQUESTING THE MARIN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO ADD
A PORTION OF NORTH SAN PEDRO ROAD TO THE URBAN THOROUGH-
FARE SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation is proposing
the construction of an on-ramp to southbound Highway 101, from Merrydale Road
at the North San Pedro Road interchange, and;
WHEREAS, the project will involve the closure of the Merrydale Road
southbound on-ramp and the Las Gallinas Avenue at -grade junction, as well as
the restriping of traffic lanes and placement of traffic signals, and;
WHEREAS, the project has been estimated to cost $460,000; of which
$382,000 will be Federal money, $52,000 State money, $13,000 from City funds,
and $13,000 from County Urban Thoroughfare Funds, and;
WHEREAS, it has been determined that a portion of North San Pedro Road,
from the City limits at Golf Avenue to Los Ranchitos Road, is not within the
Urban Thoroughfare System, and;
WHEREAS, additional streets, roads and highways may be added to the
system and thus become eligible for the expenditure of Urban Thoroughfare Funds,
and;
WHEREAS, the Urban Thoroughfare Selection Committee has reviewed this
project and determined that this section of North San Pedro Road qualifies and
should be added to the Urban Thoroughfare System, and;
WHEREAS, this section of road had previously been in the County and
the County had allocated certain funds for the signalization phase of this pro-
ject, but with the recent annexation of this section of road to the City of
San Rafael, the County withdrew its allocation, and;
WHEREAS, in order for San Rafael to become eligible for $13,000 of
Urban Thoroughfare Funds for this project, it is imperative that the portion of
North San Pedro Road from Golf Avenue to Los Ranchitos Road be added to the
Urban Thoroughfare System, and;

WHEREAS, completion of this project will benefit all residents
in the surrounding areas, both City and County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
San Rafael hereby requests the Marin County Board of Supervisors to add to
the Urban Thoroughfare System that portion of North San Pedro Road from the
City limits at Golf Avenue to Los Ranchitos Road.

certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and
adopted at a REGULAR meeting of the City Council of said City held on MONDAY,
the 5TH day of APRIL, 1976, by the following vote, to wit:
